Large diversity of folk costumes in the small Schlitzerland

The town Schlitz and Schlitzerland are not very large with a total area of 142.1 km². And yet, in the course of time a dialect and costume tradition has developed.

The "Schlitzerländer Tracht"

The traditional costume is a diverse and proud farmer's costume, which was worn by the citizens of the “Schlitzerland” until the 20th century.
Flax and wool were the two basic products for the costume, which were produced on the fields. Materials like velvet or silk were only used sparingly, since they were very expensive. The men's headgear was made from lamb or otter fur.
People were trying to create a colorful impression with their available opportunities.
